It is difficult to improve what you cannot see. Therefore, measuring environmental impacts is a key tool in improving the ecological sustainability of ICT. In many cases, power consumption during software use causes the majority of direct environmental impacts, but as electricity production becomes greener, other issues, such as the choice of data center for backend systems and the impact on the life cycle of the equipment used, are also emphasized. The Green ICT project VISIIRI organized an online workshop on November 27, 2024, where the latest tools for measuring and assessing the environmental impacts of software systems were presented. The recording includes the opening remarks of the meeting, but the workshop parts were not recorded.
