July 2022. By pure coincidence, we find ourselves repeating the climb of the normal Italian route on the Matterhorn exactly 157 years after its opening! It was in fact on July 17, 1865 when Jean-Antoine Carrel together with Jean-Baptiste Bich reached the top of the most iconic rock pyramid in the Western Alps and beyond… Climbing the Matterhorn is an all-encompassing experience and despite the presence of many fixed ropes that facilitate progression, the climb retains a challenging and adventurous character. The descent then, unlike many normal lives, is not at all obvious and does not allow you to relax too much, try it and believe it! But the most surprising thing is the view from the top: in fact, the isolated position of this mountain offers an unusual perspective on the surrounding mountain massifs. Two beautiful days spent in the company of Caterina, tied to the other end of the rope and friends Matteo, Stefano, Alessandro, Luca, Cerio and Stefano again. ???? Note: We found very dry conditions, which on the one hand made things easier for us, allowing us to travel the entire route without ice axes and crampons, including the crossing to the Swiss peak, on the other hand forced us to carry water to the hut. Fortunately, about 2/3 of the way up there is a stream that allows you to refuel. Our times were as follows: on the first day we took 3.40h from Plan Maison to the Carrel hut. On the second day we reached the top of the Matterhorn in 4h and took another 7.30h to return to Plan Maison to take the cable car. ???? for info&questions write here ????????
