The documentary series Brot & Stulle takes you on a culinary journey through northern German bakeries, into the world of the bakery trade, and all about bread as a cultural asset. Each episode portrays bread makers who have one thing in common: They prove that bread is not a quick assembly line job or has to contain artificial additives, but can be made naturally with a lot of time and passion. This and other documentaries are also available in the ARD Mediathek: https://www.ardmediathek.de/dokus The bakers create crispy masterpieces in their bakeries with powerful images, reveal their favorite recipes and create a meal based on bread to try out. With her samphire bread, 24-year-old baker Jessika Remmers from the North Sea island of Juist has already impressed the German Bakery Academy in her master craftsman examination. She also bakes a spelt toast and Grandpa Willi's sourdough bread as the basis for a Juister-style matjes sandwich. She now wants to spoil the islanders and the hotel guests next door with her own creations. The young entrepreneur is currently taking over her parents' long-established business and is breathing new life into it. Jessika attaches particular importance to a loving selection of bread and rolls and incorporates island specialties directly. But the master baker also faces challenges: her workload depends on how many people go on holiday to the island. And that changes every day. Despite many planning uncertainties and time sacrifices in her private life, Jessika Remmers is passionate about her job. Funded by nordmedia - Film- und Mediengesellschaft Niedersachsen/Bremen mbH.
