Maximilian Janisch's IQ is 149+. This math genius is beyond the usual scale. His academic career is unprecedented: the child prodigy completed primary school in three years and completed his mathematics diploma at the age of nine. Today, the 16-year-old gifted student is the youngest student in Switzerland. Maximilian first made headlines in 2013 when he was rejected as a student by the ETH at the age of nine, while top US universities were vying for him. As a result, the University of Zurich offered him a support program tailored to his needs. Maximilian has been a regular student at the University of Zurich since last year and completed his bachelor's degree in two semesters. However, he will have to wait another year for the certificate because he submitted a paper late due to illness. In the meantime, he is already tackling his master's degree. And soon he wants to do his doctorate in Princeton under his mentor Camillo De Lellis. In parallel to his studies in Zurich, Maximilian is studying mathematics in Perpignan. Maximilian spends his summer holidays in Orbetello, Italy, where the math genius spends a summer learning Italian, goes on excursions with other language students and lives with a host family. Reporter Helen Arnet also meets Maximilian's parents there. "Exceptional talents like Maximilian are not that rare - his way of supporting them is special," says Maximilian's father Thomas Drisch, a retired mathematics professor. Together with his wife, Monika Janisch, a business economist with a doctorate, he has initiated the acceleration of Maximilian's school career. "Switzerland simply cannot afford not to adequately support children and young people who are highly gifted in mathematics and science," says father Thomas Drisch, and his son Maximilian is also convinced of this. At the moment, it is mainly exceptional talents in sports and music who are receiving special attention.
