How can you accurately measure a player's contribution on a basketball court? Some scrutinize the number of points scored, others scrutinize assists. But focusing solely on the conclusion of an action eclipses the often fundamental contribution provided by the other players on the court. The NBA recently installed high-performance cameras in all stadiums, which capture every movement on the court, several dozen times per second. All that remains is to exploit this gigantic wealth of data. The main objective of the presentation will be to present a new statistical measure, called EPV (Expected Points Valuation). EPV quantifies the statistical contribution of each decision made by a player, throughout the game. The basketball game then becomes a continuous random process, and the number of points scored a random variable on the same space. During the session, we will alternate between presenting the probabilistic tools needed to calculate EPV and comparing it with the reality on the court, through videos and graphic representations. ---------------------------------- You can join us on social networks to follow our news.
