Peucetia was a region that today corresponds to the territory of the province of Bari. The Peucetians, a population of Illyrian origin, settled in this area around 800 BC. In the following centuries they had contacts with the Greek world, which were interrupted due to clashes with nearby cities. In the 3rd century BC the Peucetians joined the Romans.
