The story of Oedipus is based on one of the most fascinating plots in all of Greek mythology. It is the story of a character who, in order to escape his own destiny, delves deeper into its traps, in order to discover a murderer - acting like a real detective - ends up discovering that, in reality, that murderer is himself. The great solver of riddles, the one who had defeated the Sphinx, cannot even decipher himself: and from an innocent man fleeing from the curse, he transforms into the guilty one par excellence. But is Oedipus really guilty? Maurizio Bettini is a full professor of Classical Philology at the University of Siena and director of the interdepartmental study center 'Anthropology of the Ancient World'. An essayist, philologist and writer, he has approached the study of the Greek and Latin world by adopting an interdisciplinary perspective, open to the acquisitions of history and anthropology and focused on the myth, society, arts and religion of the ancients.
