Massimo Cacciari is professor emeritus of Aesthetics at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University of Milan and a member of the Accademia dei Lincei. He has been active in politics and is present in public debate, after having been co-founder and co-director of some of the magazines that have marked Italian political, cultural and philosophical life between the 1960s and 1990s. He has turned his attention to the crisis of German idealism and dialectical systems, valorizing the critique of Western metaphysics typical of Nietzsche and Heidegger and following the genealogy of nihilistic thought in the classics of late-ancient, medieval and modern mysticism. He has worked in theoretical and political philosophy and aesthetics, also investigating issues related to law. He has received several awards and has held lectures, courses and conferences at numerous European universities and institutions.
