Philip Kovce in conversation with Markus Gabriel on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at the Mitte company in Basel Me and the other animals What distinguishes humans and animals is a topic of constant debate in the natural sciences and the humanities. Is man just an animal? Are animals also human? What connects them and what separates them? These fundamental questions not only affect our understanding of nature and culture; the answers to them also determine how we understand ourselves and the coexistence of humans and animals, as well as our relationship to the shared environment. About Markus Gabriel, born in 1980, has held the chair for epistemology, modern and contemporary philosophy at the University of Bonn since 2009. He is also director of the International Center for Philosophy there and was and is a visiting professor at many international universities. His most recent publications include "Man as an Animal" (2022) and "Moral Progress in Dark Times" (2020). His new book "Do Good!" will be published in autumn 2024.
