Maria's husband died at the age of 33 from the rare form of cancer sarcoma. The illness and his death plunged Maria and her two children Giulia and Fynn into a deep crisis. But the 40-year-old manages to cope with her grief and uses the tragic experiences as motivation. She wants others to experience things differently: "I'm not a doctor, I can't develop a new drug. But I realized that I want to dedicate my professional life to the fight against cancer." She is leaving her old professional life behind and taking a job at the German Sarcoma Foundation with her personal expertise as a relative. "I saw the adjustment screws that went wrong for us. And now I want to change that - for other sick people." Maria's mission is great: to raise awareness in cancer research and change the health care system. Maria travels across the country to achieve this, often for days at a time. Can the single widow manage the balancing act between work and children? Giulia will soon be starting school and Fynn is currently doing his A-levels.
