Imagine being a Director at the largest fintech (financial startup) in the country, Nubank, and leaving to start a business? It seems crazy. But that's what Marcelo Toledo did. Marcelo Toledo is the former Director of Engineering at Nubank, CEO and founder of Klivo, host of the Excepcionais Podcast, and mentor at G4. In this episode of Extremos, he talks to Alfredo Soares and Bruno Nardon, his partners at G4 Imersão e Mentoria, about his entire story, journey, and career. And, of course, about several extreme moments that have surrounded his life. Much of the conversation was about Nubank: how Marcelo Toledo joined Nubank, what the work routine and culture at Nubank are like, and Toledo's entire history in building Nubank's technology team. A very interesting lesson he gives in the episode is about leadership: when he joined the company, 100 people were part of Nubank's technology team, and there was only 1 leader for everyone. Of course, this is impractical for the team to be efficient. And what was it like for Marcelo Toledo to decide to leave Nubank before the company's IPO, that is, when it went public on the New York Stock Exchange, on the NYSE, with a billion-dollar market value? Of course, financially it was not the best option, as Toledo said. But why did he leave the company, which was already growing a lot? Imagine a person with an entrepreneurial spirit, being inside a company, and at the same time seeing a market full of opportunities and with few companies operating: the health market. That's when he left Nubank to return to entrepreneurship and set up his own business: Klivo. Furthermore, Marcelo Toledo was a former swimmer. In the episode, he highlights the lessons he learned from this experience he had in his life, and how he learned to be disciplined and unbeatable. Another great lesson Toledo learned in Extremos was about all the advantages of producing content, for networking, and audience loyalty. Whether on podcasts, Instagram, or even a blog.
