2024-11-17 Text: Luke 19:11-27 11 While they were listening to this, he went on to tell them a parable because he was near Jerusalem and they thought that the kingdom of God was going to appear at once. 12 He said to them, “A man of noble birth went to a distant country to have himself appointed king and then to return. 13 He called ten of his servants and gave them ten minas, saying, ‘Put this money to work until I come back.’ 14 But his own people hated him and sent a messenger after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to reign over us.’ 15 When the nobleman returned after having appointed himself king, he called his servants to whom he had given the minas, because he wanted to know how each of them had traded. 16 The first came forward and said, ‘Lord, your mina has gained ten minas.’ 17 “Well done, good servant,” he said. “Because you have been faithful in a very little, have authority over ten cities.” 18 The second came and said, ‘Lord, your mina has gained ten more.’ 19 Then his master said to him, 'You also take charge of five cities.' 20 Then another servant came and said, 'Master, here is your mina, which I kept wrapped in a cloth. 21 For I was afraid of you, because you are an exacting man, taking up what you did not lay down, and reaping what you did not sow.' 22 But his master said to him, 'I judge you by your own words, you wicked servant.
