In this division of the Mandaçaia Mqq bee (Melipona quadrifasciata quadrifasciata), we will initially use three colonies as follows: Mother Box = We remove two mature brood discs. Field bee donor box #1 = Field bees + one edge of a mature and nascent disc. Field bee donor box #2 = Field bees. Objective: Two new colonies of Mandaçaia Mqq bees. We demonstrate the type of box (to form the daughter colony) that we will use to house the mature brood discs and the field bees. We use sheets of mixed wax and small wax pots to protect the brood discs and help the bees in the initial structuring of the new nest. In addition to detailing the division of Mandaçaia, we will demonstrate several tips for handling bees.
