It is the most populous city in Amazonas, the Northern Region and the entire Brazilian Amazon. The municipality is the largest tourist destination in the Amazon and was the 8th most visited Brazilian destination by foreigners in 2013. There are a significant number of jungle hotels in its metropolitan region, which also function as tourist attractions. One of the main tourist attractions is the Amazonas Theater, an architectural and cultural symbol dating back to 1896 - the golden age of rubber - and a National Historic Heritage Site. Among the city's natural attractions, the Encontro das Águas (Meeting of the Waters) stands out, a natural phenomenon caused by the meeting of the muddy waters of the Solimões River with the dark waters of the Negro River, which run for about six kilometers without mixing, and Ponta Negra Beach, located on the left bank of the Negro River, approximately 13 km from the center of Manaus.
