The episode is partnered with Čajové bedýnky. Choose from a wide range of delicious teas: https://www.cajovebedynky.cz/ The guest of the WORLD podcast was author and writer Jana LeBlanc, with whom we talked about her life in Malaysia. Jana arrived in Southeast Asia as the wife of an American diplomat, which influenced her entire stay. On the one hand, her family was well taken care of, on the other hand, Jana found it a little more difficult to step out of the diplomatic bubble into the Malaysian world. She got to know Malaysia through her children's nanny, who was from Pakistan. There are only slightly more than half of ethnic Malaysians in the country. Dark-skinned foreigners often have a hard time in Malaysia, which made Jana realize how privileged she is as a white woman there. In the podcast, we also talk about the Malaysian metropolis of Kuala Lumpur, where you only need to walk a few dozen meters from the luxurious Petronas Towers and you will find yourself in the original part of the city, Kampung Baru, where life is completely different. Malaysia is also specific in other respects - expect that everything here will be wrapped in plastic, even black tea or a mango cube. Don't look for a knife when eating, in Malaysia people eat with their hands or with a spoon and fork. And if you come across a gecko in your apartment, be glad that it is not a snake. But listen to this and much more in the entire podcast. We wish you pleasant listening!
