In April, an immense number of daffodils, hyacinths and tulips bloom here, enchanting with their variety of shapes and colors. Several years ago, the gardeners of Mainau planted a flowerbed in the shape of Lake Constance on a slope at the edge of the shore garden, which brings Mainau visitors a little closer to the geography of the Swabian Sea in a floral way. The Italian flower water staircase connects the Mediterranean terraces and the lower shore area with a watercourse made of Calanca gneiss from Ticino. The Swedish Tower shapes the image of the island and has become a landmark of the flower island. This is not least due to its majestic location on the southwest slope of the island. All the flower figures that one encounters on the island of Mainau are covered in a magnificent floral dress at any time of year. Their body is a wide-meshed wire mesh, filled with potting soil and equipped with irrigation hoses. On the northwestern edge of the arboretum is the Grand Duke Friedrich Terrace, which is dedicated to the park's founder, Grand Duke Friedrich I of Baden. Around 450 different types of tulips bloom along the spring avenue. Every year a large number of new bulbs are planted in autumn. At the peak of bloom in late April or early May, over a million flowers open. The Swan Fountain, which is part of the so-called fountain arena, was created in 1979 to mark the 70th birthday of Lennart Count Bernadotte. The Teutonic Order Castle is the architectural centrepiece and a magnificent backdrop for a wide range of events. Music: Carefree Summer (a) Andrew McCrorie-ShandCraig Gannon
