Luisa Kurzenhäuser Rottenburg Forestry University Directed hunting in a modular system? Experiences from a project on self-managed hunting at the Rottenburg Forestry University: The increasing pressure from climate change is putting the important role of hunting in forest conversion in the spotlight. Many forest owners are confronted with climate-related forest damage, which shows that "business as usual" is not an option. If natural regeneration fails due to insufficient hunting, conversion to a climate-stable mixed forest becomes a costly challenge. Solutions are therefore more necessary than ever. Previously little noticed, the Federal Hunting Act gives hunting rights holders the option of self-managing the hunt. This gives forest owners the opportunity to direct the hunt themselves. The Forestry University is currently investigating the options for setting up self-managed hunts in a research project. It has shown that in southern Germany, self-managing the hunt by municipalities and hunting associations is more widespread regionally than previously thought. And: Self-management is a flexible model and offers many individual options for adaptation to local conditions. The presentation will present excerpts from the project findings to date.
