About :

In 1990, Mercedes launched one of its greatest successes in Brazilian road freight transport, the LS1935 tractor unit, to replace, among others, the old LS-1634, which came from a series that had already been in production for 20 years. The line consisted of the new LS1625, 1630, 1935 and 1941, which debuted a much more modern cabin, with a completely new design and external and internal components, making for a more comfortable environment, with a bed, thermal and acoustic insulation and anatomical seats. They also brought as a novelty the new 400 series of Mercedes engines, both in the 5-cylinder version, which was the OM-449, and the 6-cylinder OM-447-LA of 12 liters (11.967L), the latter equipping the 1935 and 1941. In the 1935 it was calibrated for 158KGFM from 1100 to 1600RPM and 354HP at 2100RPM, a truck that had a ZF 16s1300 gearbox, a model of the well-known double 4 gearbox, with 8 single gears and 8 reduced gears, while in its bigger brother, 1941, the engine was calibrated to generate 184KGFM and 408HP. Another mechanical feature of the 1935, which made it very robust, was the consecrated Mercedes HL7 rear axle with reduction hubs and two ratio options. Its main competitors were the Scania 112HW, replaced by the 113 in 1991, and also the Volvo NL12 launched in 1989. In 1993, the LS-2635 6x4 summer truck, which was focused on the sugarcane sector, also joined the heavy-duty line. In mid-1995, Mercedes launched the Top Brake engine brake as an accessory on its engines. At the same time, the 1941, which was not well received, was discontinued. Some other changes followed in the 1935, which initially had the chassis painted in the characteristic red color, but then received the black chassis, thus becoming known as the black chassis series. In addition to the Top Brake brakes, the power was slightly increased, from 354 to 360 hp, and torque from 158 to 168 kgfm, and it also received a new ZF16s transmission, model 1650. The 1935 had a few special series, very rare, one of them was the NTC STAR, from 1994, which celebrated 30 years of the National Association of Road Cargo Transport Companies, and another in 1995, the 800 thousand series, which celebrated 800 thousand Mercedes vehicles in Brazil. There is no doubt that the LS-1935 tractor units were a huge success in the 90s. However, some changes in the truck market trend were occurring at that time, such as the beginning of the electronic motorization era and, at the same time, the trend of new advanced cabins. An interesting fact was that Mercedes even considered launching a 1935 with an advanced cabin, similar to the models in Europe. However, the plan was not completed. In order to try to fit in with the new trends, it resorted to importing the 2038S model from Germany. However, the model was not well accepted in the market and became one of the rarest MB trucks in Brazil. The classic 1935 continued its legacy alongside all the other modern trucks of the time. However, it would not be for long, as these changes that we mentioned earlier would eventually culminate in its end. In 1998, the electronic LS-1938 model was launched, maintaining the traditional semi-advanced cabin, with a new front grille, round headlights and other optional extras, equipped with the OM 457LA engine, six cylinders and 380 horsepower. Then a new version was also launched the following year, the 1938S, the first heavy Mercedes advanced cabin model in Brazil. Like other trucks of the time, a quick analysis shows that the 1935 had a relatively short lifespan, as it was launched in 1990, would be replaced in 1998, and with its production ended, it entered history considered by many to be the best Mercedes of all time. The legacy of its design, at least, and its success, would make Mercedes launch, in 2001, in addition to the 1938, the 1634, with a mechanical OM 447 LA engine, it was as if the 1935 was reborn to continue the brand's classic option, lasting until 2011. #volantão #mercedesbenz #truck
