In the seventh episode of their dialogue on the program #Witness_to_the_Era, #Ahmed_Mansour and former Iraqi intelligence chief #Fadel_Al-Azzawi shed light on the #Iran_Gate scandal, the late President #Saddam_Hussein’s support for the Maronites with weapons during the #Lebanese_Civil_War (1975-1990) to spite Syrian President #Hafez_Al-Assad, and the details of the strong relationship between Saddam Hussein and King #Hussein_bin_Talal of Jordan, who supported Iraq throughout the years of its war with #Iran, to the point that he ordered the shelling of Iranian forces with artillery. Al-Azzawi revealed that in September 1984, he was assigned with the then Iraqi Foreign Minister #Tariq_Aziz to travel to #New_York to meet with Iranian officials to discuss stopping the war under international cover, noting that Saddam Hussein granted them the authority to negotiate, and that the Iranians’ intransigence led the negotiations to a dead end. Fadhel Al-Azzawi spoke about Saddam's gift to King Hussein, which was 70 British "Chieftain" tanks, which were spoils from the #Iraq_Iran_War (1980-1988). Al-Azzawi revealed that King Hussein refused to deliver a shipment of Iraqi weapons to the former Lebanese Army Commander, General #Michel_Aoun, which forced Iraq to deliver them to him in 1989, by sea, through an unofficial port. It is noteworthy that the Maronite General Michel Aoun, who was born in the stronghold of #Hezbollah in Haret Hreik in the southern suburb in 1935, entered into bloody confrontations with the Syrian army in Lebanon in March 1989, before his relationship with Syria improved after years of political hostility, following his return from exile in **#France**.
