Solitude as the Best Company: Arthur Schopenhauer's Vision, quotes and phrases, philosophy Arthur Schopenhauer, a 19th-century German philosopher, was a great advocate of a deeper introspection of human beings. Despite his pessimistic philosophy, within his conceptions, those who saw solitude as a space for growth were endowed with great intellectual capacity, a being of elevated spirit. Some quotes from this philosopher make this thought clear, of seeing solitude as a path to personal development, an opportunity to reflect with a unique perspective and totally relevant to what I think, without being influenced by external noises. Only in solitude are we truly free, because we are not limited by anything or anyone. This was one of the phrases uttered by Schopenhauer who saw stillness as a moment of peace so that we could think freely about anything.
