The oldest manor house in Brittany dated to date is undergoing restoration work. Ancestral techniques and local materials are being used on the site to restore the building to its former grandeur. The Manoir du Boberil dates from the first half of the 14th century (1335). A major site in the town of Hermitage, located 15 km from Rennes, the Manoir du Boberil began restoration work in 2017. This film presents the restoration work, and in particular the masonry work, carried out using ancient raw earth techniques such as cob. The archaeological studies that were carried out at the start of the building restoration project made it possible to discover important elements of its history and to document its evolution. Daniel Lefèvre, Chief Architect of Historic Monuments in charge of the restoration of the manor, looks back at the construction techniques used. These techniques use local materials such as earth. The choice for the restoration is to implement these traditional techniques and to use, as during construction, local materials. The companies working on the site explain to us all the masonry techniques that were used on this remarkable project. Here is the second episode of a trilogy on an exceptional building both in terms of history and the construction techniques used during its construction.
