What does it mean to live with autism? Judith Visser and Erik Jan Harmens each investigate in their own way what it means to live with a form of autism. They spoke with TV presenter Filemon Wesselink. Judith drew on her own life for her book Zondagskind (Sunday's Child); it was only when she was an adult that she received the diagnosis she already knew: Asperger's, a form of autism. Erik Jan Harmens wrote his novel Pauwl about the adult autistic Paul (which everyone pronounces as Pauwl) and incorporated the experiences of his son who is autistic into it. Harmens' son read the manuscript and gave his father very useful suggestions for the book. Harmens and Visser wrote compelling stories about how someone with autism holds their own in our society. Reporter and presenter Filemon Wesselink is best known for BNN programs. He only found out he had autism at a later age, when he made the documentary series Het is hier autistisch (It is autistic here).
