Fighting dogs – cold-blooded killers or loyal protectors? Just a few weeks ago, two people in Hanover were killed by fighting dog Chico. List dogs, as fighting dogs are also called, are classified as “dangerous” by law. Breeding them is prohibited in Germany. But how dangerous are fighting dogs really? Robin loves dogs in principle, but he would never leave his child alone in a room with a dog. He has a lot of respect for fighting dogs. Robin doesn’t like it at all when they are allowed to run around freely without a leash or muzzle. Because a bite like that can be fatal. To confront his own prejudices, Robin meets Mira and her fighting dog Sippy for his “follow me.reports” documentary. Sippy is a real muscle pack at 25 kilograms. The American Staffordshire Terrier comes from the animal shelter. Don’t look at them! No direct eye contact and ignore them for now! There are many things to consider when dealing with a listed dog to avoid dangerous incidents. Will Robin be ready to walk him on a leash after training? What is it like to keep a fighting dog? Are you sometimes discriminated against as an owner of a fighting dog? Robin accompanies Mira on a walk through the city center of Cologne. On a meadow in nature, where there is no one to be seen for miles around, Sippy is even allowed to run without a leash and without a muzzle. But what if his hunting instinct gets the better of him? In the city he has to walk on a leash. Mira says that she receives a lot of prejudiced comments and dirty looks in public with her fighting dog. She is quickly labeled as a "quota idiot". In order to be allowed to own a fighting dog, you have to meet many requirements, including training at dog school six times a month and paying taxes three times higher than for normal dogs - why all this and is it even worth it? Mira invests a lot of time and money out of love for her dog. Robin visits an animal shelter where fighting dogs end up that have been mistreated by their owners or kept illegally. They are not as well off as Sippy, they live in kennels. With a lot of patience and training, attempts are being made to resocialize them. Then Sippy goes to dog school, which specializes in training listed dogs. In order to be allowed to run around without a muzzle and without a leash, fighting dogs have to pass a so-called temperament test. Robin's task in the exercise is to scare him and threaten him massively! He is supposed to provoke Sippy to the extreme in order to test whether the fighting dog doesn't bite him and try to kill him. Let's hope that Sippy passes the test... "follow me.reports" is a report format from funk on behalf of ZDFinfo.
