The official language is Portuguese, but many people also speak English, especially in tourist places. 🌇Lisbon is a city that can be visited all year round, but the best times are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when temperatures are mild and there are fewer tourists than during the peak summer season. 🤔A Brief History of Lisbon Lisbon is the capital and largest city of Portugal, with a history that dates back to prehistoric times. Over the centuries, the city has been influenced by many different cultures, including the Celts, Phoenicians, Romans, Moors, and Christians. 💡During the Roman Empire, Lisbon was an important trading port known as Olisipo. It was also a center of culture and learning, with several schools and libraries. After the fall of the Roman Empire, Lisbon was invaded by various groups, including the Visigoths and Moors. In 1147, the city was captured by Christian Crusaders led by King Afonso I of Portugal. 💶During the Age of Discoveries in the 15th and 16th centuries, Lisbon became a center of exploration and trade. Portuguese explorers like Vasco da Gama and Pedro Álvares Cabral sailed from Lisbon to discover new lands and establish trade routes. In 1755, Lisbon was devastated by a massive earthquake, followed by a tsunami and fires that destroyed much of the city. Lisbon’s reconstruction was overseen by the Marquis of Pombal, who introduced new building codes and urban planning strategies. 🖼️During the 20th century, Lisbon became a centre for art, culture and music. The city played a significant role in the 1974 Carnation Revolution, which ended the authoritarian dictatorship that had ruled Portugal for almost five decades. 🏙️Today, Lisbon is a vibrant and cosmopolitan city that attracts millions of tourists each year. Its rich history, architecture and cultural heritage make it a fascinating destination for travellers from all over the world. ✅Lisbon is a beautiful city, full of culture and history.
