Here are some old video recordings from my home region of Lippe. The Principality of Lippe was initially a territory in the Lower Rhine-Westphalian Imperial Circle in the Holy Roman Empire. It survived the end of the empire for a short time in the Confederation of the Rhine, continued to exist in the German Confederation and the German Empire in the 19th century, and was transformed into the Free State of Lippe in 1919. The Free State of Lippe replaced the Principality of Lippe as a parliamentary democracy in 1918. During the Weimar Republic it was a state of the German Empire, was brought into line by the Nazi regime in 1933, and became part of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in 1947. The circle follows in the tradition of the former territory in the Holy Roman Empire and the later German federal state of Lippe. The Lords of Lippe, first mentioned in documents in the 12th century, built up their territory here, were elevated to Imperial Counts in 1529 and Imperial Princes in 1789. In 1815, Lippe joined the German Confederation and was a member state of the German Empire from 1871 to 1945, and a free state from 1918. From 1932, the districts of Detmold and Lemgo existed as administrative units, to which the previously independent cities of Detmold and Lemgo were assigned in 1934. On January 21, 1947, the Free State of Lippe was united with the state of North Rhine-Westphalia by Military Ordinance No. 77 of the British occupying forces. On April 1, 1947, the new Minden-Lippe administrative district with its seat in Detmold was formed from the Westphalian administrative district of Minden and Lippe (from June 2, 1947, the Detmold administrative district). In 1949, the laws passed by the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament on November 5, 1948 - based on the so-called Lippe punctuations - to regulate the unification of the state of Lippe with the state of North Rhine-Westphalia came into force, after which the Lippe regional association was formed. The communities of Lipperode and Cappel were assigned to the Lippstadt district. In 1969 and 1970, the communities in the Lemgo district (on January 1, 1969 by the Lemgo law) and Detmold district (on January 1, 1970 by the Detmold law) were reorganized. 16 towns and communities were formed from the formerly 168 independent Lippe towns and communities. The town of Lügde and the communities of Harzberg and Kempen-Feldrom were assigned to the Detmold district, and the Lippe exclave of Grevenhagen to the Höxter district. In the Bielefeld Act, the former districts of Lemgo and Detmold were merged to form the district of Lippe with its seat in Detmold with effect from January 1, 1973. This district largely corresponds in its territorial extent to the former dominion/county/principality and country of Lippe and can therefore look back on a continuous history spanning almost 900 years and can be briefly understood as "Lippe" or as the "Lipperland".
