The Yakumo Express was introduced in March 1972 to coincide with the opening of the Sanyo Shinkansen in Okayama. It was a diesel express train using the Kiha 181 series that ran between Okayama and Izumo City/Masuda via the Hakubi Line, but was replaced by the 381 series electric train in July 1982 when the Hakubi Line and other lines were electrified. For a long time, the 381 series dominated the service, but due to aging, it will be replaced by the new 273 series. From April 6, 2024, 6 out of 15 round trips will be replaced by the 273 series. All regular trains are scheduled to be replaced by June 15. https://www.westjr.co.jp/press/articl... I took some photos of the train alongside other trains.
