Light meter and metering modes in the camera, which one to choose? Light meter in the camera: Spot, multi-segment, partial or center-weighted? Which one to use? The ideal for a light meter is a medium-bright photo. It does not want a dark frame, does not want a bright shot and will always try to expose the photo in such a way that literally everything in the frame has a moderate brightness. So if our scene has an average brightness overall, there are no surprises and the light meter will work perfectly and we will be happy with the effect. We will be disappointed if we photograph a bright or dark scene or, even worse, in a mixed arrangement of bright and dark fragments. Exposure compensation is a reliable way to obtain the exposure we expect. It is an ideal tool for forcing the light meter to take pictures not based on its automatic settings. The correction function, or otherwise called exposure compensation, is available in the vast majority of cameras. It is worth noting that the camera's light meter can work in different modes, and these in turn can be adjusted to the brightness of the scene and the importance of the objects we are photographing. We can use at least three: center-weighted, matrix and spot, and sometimes different variations of these three basic variants. ????
