We are all born in a specific environment and under certain circumstances that we do not choose. And the truth is that most of us live the rest of our lives conditioned materially, physically, psychologically and emotionally by that beginning of life. But there are certain people who escape from that “cage” and fly above their own limitations, congenital or acquired, and are able to pursue their dreams… What makes them different? Could we all do it? What are the keys, if there are any, to ensure that our origin does not determine our future? Miguel Ángel Tobías has been travelling the world for years with his camera telling stories of people who are living examples that it is possible! Gennet Corcuera is one of them. Deafblind since she was born in Africa, she has become the first European woman with congenital deafblindness to obtain a university degree. Her story, which will inspire millions of people, is told in the film “MY NAME IS GENNET”, which Miguel Ángel is currently filming, in co-production with RTVE. The film will show what Gennet Corcuera's life has been like since he was born in Ethiopia 37 years ago, until today in Spain, when Gennet is an independent person and fully integrated into society. Miguel Ángel Tobías is a Producer and Director of Film, Documentaries and TV Programs. It also devotes enormous resources to the production of documentaries for the dissemination of social, solidarity and charitable causes, which promote universal values such as justice, solidarity, peace. Gennet Corcuera is the protagonist of 'My name is Gennet', a film directed and produced by Miguel Ángel Tobías that tells, in a poetic way, the surprising and wonderful story of a deafblind girl, from the moment she was abandoned, at just three years old, in an orphanage in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, until she became the first person with deafblindness to obtain a university degree in Spain. The film is built from Gennet's present in Seville, with her work as a special educator in the only residential center specialized in deafblindness. Through a voice-over that represents his inner self, and the process of writing on his computer, Gennet tells his own story and allows us to enter his world to understand how he lives his loneliness, friendship, love, and the memory of a life of silence and darkness that, however, he has managed to transform into something bright and positive.
