Life and work in the countryside are more relaxed, despite sometimes entailing greater physical effort. Proximity to nature makes both the elderly and children feel better, who also suffer from the stress of city life. Nicaragua, with a privileged geographical position, has a climate that favors the production of its food and when you live in the countryside your diet improves considerably. Think that, instead of going to the supermarket to buy fruit and vegetables, it is very possible that you can grow part of your own food, in addition to being able to buy it directly from the people nearby who grow it. This, without a doubt, makes us eat healthier, in addition to helping us consume seasonal foods, with all that implies (better price, less contamination and possibly better flavor). Today we want to share the story of Abel Antonio Mejía Peña, 87 years old, and Marina Solano Picado, 82 years old, a couple who have been married for 66 years and live 258 kilometers from Managua in the Los Laureles Community, Nueva Guinea municipality of the Autonomous Region of the South Caribbean Coast. The day we visited them, we were not able to talk to the couple together, because Mr. Abel Mejía traveled to the city to have a medical checkup, for this reason you will see them separately. In Nicaragua, life in rural areas has evolved in recent years. Health and education infrastructures are closer to the communities every day. Today, there are better rural road infrastructures. These are enough reasons for the Mejía Solano family to continue loving the countryside, and although they have the financial means, they prefer their humble home and for them having their own vehicle is not essential. When you live in the mountains, it is very difficult for your bedtime to be affected by noise and lights coming from outside. And when night falls in the countryside, the world stops and it is time to rest, while in the cities life can continue until late at night. That is why in the countryside you will feel what a truly restful sleep is like, after sleeping more and better. These lovebirds share with us the success of their marriage, they revealed the secret to staying young and how it was like Raising 11 Children. Doña Marina Solano and her husband Abel Mejía are two simple and hard-working people, a great example and pride of what we Nicaraguans are, that is why we decided to share this beautiful family story. I am Nohemí Mayorga, see you in another video.
