Alberdi was born on August 29, 1810 in the Province of Tucumán, almost three months after the May Revolution. His childhood is quite difficult since he is orphaned at a very early age (his mother dies in childbirth and his father when he was 11 years old). Thus his brothers take care of him. At the age of 14 he travels to Buenos Aires to study at the College of Moral Sciences (now the National Buenos Aires). At first he abandoned his studies and decided to spend his time in a shop and studying piano. However, a few years later he decided to return to the College and continued his studies until he graduated as a lawyer in 1840. In 1837 he formed the Literary Salon together with other intellectuals of the time such as Echeverría, Gutierrez, Miguel Cané, etc. This group of young people shared the idea that it was necessary to overcome the dichotomy Federalism - Unitarianism for a superior option and thus end the civil war. However, the governor of Buenos Aires, Juan Manuel de Rosas, did not contemplate any kind of opposition and decided to exile themselves from the country. Alberdi decided to go to Uruguay, then to Europe after the Rosas attack on Montevideo and finally arrived in Valparaíso, Chile. After the defeat of Juan Manuel de Rosas in the battle of Caseros in 1852, Alberdi decided to begin writing what would later become his most important work: Bases and Starting Points for the Political Organization of the Argentine Republic.
