History The castle was built around 1170 by the Counts of Castel to secure their possessions and was first mentioned in 1218 as "Boemund von Liebenberg", who was a vassal of the Counts of Zweibrücken. After the castle came into the possession of Archbishop Baldwin of Trier in 1334, it was destroyed in 1430 during a dispute between Ulrich von Manderscheid and Raban von Helmstatt over the Trier archbishopric and electoral office. In 1479, Heinrich von Sötern was enfeoffed with the castle, which was then finally destroyed by the French in 1677 during the Dutch War and then used as a quarry. In 1926, the first excavation and excavation work took place on the small, elliptical castle complex, which was about 70 by 35 meters in size. In 1976, the keep above the cistern was rebuilt. Today it serves as a lookout tower and wedding room (April 1st to October 31st) __________________ Greetings Zorro #abandoned_places #castle_ruins #castles #germany #middle_ages #history #saarland #viralvideo #viral_video Friends @Tvmann1977 @LexUrbex @matze.k67 @Zartes-Reh @SilentPlaces1997 @OurWorldstgt @heidilunasjourney @LostplaceHospitant @siggivanutrecht @forgottensites
