The Postman: A Life Full of Stories and Kilometers In the village of Potamoula in Aitoloakarnania, we meet Mr. George. For 34 years, from 1973 to 2007, he served as a postman, covering countless kilometers on foot, delivering letters, parcels and news to every corner of the region. His childhood was marked by poverty. He grew up in a shack, with little food and whatever clothes he could find. Nevertheless, he managed to climb his way up. After his service in the army, he followed the profession of postman, an era when the uniform, the bag and the whistle were inseparable parts of him. Mr. George remembers with nostalgia the stories he shared with people as he delivered the letters. The joy they felt when they saw him, the anticipation of news from loved ones, all of this made up a unique part of the social reality of that time. At the same time, he does not hesitate to talk about the difficulties of the profession. The many kilometers on foot, the bad weather conditions, the responsibility for the timely and safe delivery of letters, all of these were daily challenges. Today, the profession of postman tends to disappear from modern forms of communication. Mr. George, now retired, dedicates his time to the tradition of his place, collecting old objects and singing traditional songs. The story of Mr. George is a living testimony to an era when communication had a different weight, a different essence. An era when the postman was not just a distributor, but a link, a messenger, a person who came into direct contact with the joys and sorrows of people. •• Article 66 - Law 2121/1993 EPPI-DROUME AMKE ••
