History of Lengger Dance According to the story, Lengger Dance has existed since the reign of Prabu Brawijaya which was later adopted by Islam to spread Islam throughout the archipelago. This dance began when King Brawijaya who lost his daughter, Dewi Sekartaji, held a competition to give an award to anyone who could find the princess. If a man finds her, he will be made the princess's husband and if a woman, she will be made a sister. The competition which was followed by many knights finally only left two participants, namely Raden Panji Asmoro Bangun who disguised himself as Joko Kembang Kuning from the Jenggala Kingdom. Another one, Prabu Klono from the Sebrang Kingdom, was the person who caused the princess to run away because the king matched her. Lengger Dance comes from the word "elinga ngger". Which means remember son. Lengger means advice or advice so that we always remember God Almighty, to b or do good to everyone. At that time, the entertainment that was enjoyed by the community was Tayub or Ledek. When the community was holding Tayub or Ledek entertainment, Sunan Kalijaga was also present in the midst of the audience. When it was time for prayer, be it Dzuhur, 'Ashar, Maghrib, Isya', or Shubuh, Sunan Kalijaga always reminded with the words elinga ngger iki wis wayahe padha shalat age padha shalat dhisik (remember, son, it's time to pray, let's pray first). With the words elinga ngger, the word Lengger arose.
