February 14, 2023: Back in the fall, a severe recession seemed inevitable. Russia's attack on Ukraine, sanctions against Moscow, rising energy prices, high general inflation and still fragile supply chains provided the ingredients for the expected "perfect storm". Now the picture has changed: Germany has so far come through the winter better than expected, and the forecasts have also brightened. What are the reasons for this? What role does the state play, what does the labor market have to do with it? Which energy policy decisions and instruments are effective? And: what should politicians definitely tackle? Together with the presidents of the Leibniz economic research institutes, we want to discuss these questions. Martina Brockmeier, President of the Leibniz Association, will open the event. Business journalist Ursula Weidenfeld will moderate the Leibniz Economic Summit. Discussing: Thomas K. Bauer (RWI - Leibniz Institute for Economic Research Essen), Marcel Fratzscher (DIW Berlin - German Institute for Economic Research), Clemens Fuest (ifo Institute - Leibniz Institute for Economic Research at the University of Munich), Reint Gropp (Leibniz Institute for Economic Research Halle), Florian Heider (Leibniz Institute for Financial Market Research SAFE), Stefan Kooths (Kiel Institute for the World Economy), Achim Wambach (ZEW - Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research, Mannheim).
