Around the mid-2000s, LED traffic lights began appearing, replacing standard incandescent bulbs thanks to recent advances in LED technology. Municipalities celebrated the energy savings they provided, but they weren’t so well received in cold climates. Not producing enough heat to melt the snow on the lenses, some drivers were confused by the ambiguous signals, leading to fatal crashes. In this video, we look at why this new “problem” has sparked such harsh criticism of the new technology, and why the reaction is completely idiotic and regressive.
