Prefinished parquet can be laid in two ways: floating - i.e. without fixing to the wall and floor - or glued. With floating installation, both a vapor barrier and impact sound insulation must be placed under the parquet. Both can be laid individually with foil and insulation underlay in the traditional way or in one go as a combined product. And what are the advantages of gluing the parquet? The planks are firmly attached to the floor with a special adhesive. This leads to significantly better impact sound insulation. And because there is less movement in the floor, the whole bond feels even firmer and of higher quality. Before laying begins, everything that is lying on the screed and sticking must first be meticulously removed. Then use a spirit level and/or straightedge to check whether the floor is level. If not, then flow filler will help. The residual moisture must be determined, especially with new screed - the limit values must not be exceeded here. After the parquet has acclimatized for 48 hours in its future home, the laying can finally begin. Since we are gluing it, we save ourselves the trouble of laying a vapor barrier and impact sound insulation. We also decided on a random pattern: the remaining piece in the strand is the beginning of the new row, as long as it is not too short. Let's get started. Cut the first panels to the right size and click them together. Always use spacers to ensure the specified expansion joints - about one centimeter to each wall. A few things must be observed before and during laying: the width of the last row must not be narrower than 5 cm. The start and end pieces of each row have certain minimum lengths specified by the manufacturer, and there are also individual specifications for the offset of the transverse joints, which primarily serve to ensure stability, but also aesthetics. Once the first rows of parquet have been cut and laid out, gluing can begin. The parquet adhesive is applied to the floor with a notched trowel and the panels are then pressed on. Small challenges such as corners, heating pipes or reveals are mastered with skill. The only mistakes are the skirting boards. And you're done! Our BAUHAUS workshop moderators Julia and Marcus will show you step by step how it all works, how to proceed in difficult places and what you need to pay attention to. 00:00 - Intro 00:16 - Interesting facts about parquet 01:30 - Materials and tools 02:01 - Preparatory work 03:22 - Residual moisture 03:58 - Acclimatization in the room 04:22 - Installation plan and width of the last row of panels 06:03 - Cutting the first panels before gluing 06:18 - Minimum length of the panels 08:55 - Offsetting transverse joints 09:49 - What to do if the walls are crooked? 13:12 - Glue parquet 17:04 - Cut out heating pipes 22:03 - Attach end profile to reveal 23:42 - Edge reveal with parquet 25:26 - Remove spacers 25:44 - Attach end profile 26:27 - Install skirting boards 29:17 - Care and sealing 29:45 - Cover heating pipes with double rosette 29:51 - Seal skirting boards with acrylic ????
