Putting together a baby's layette is neither an easy nor cheap task. So, here are our tips on what you should buy before the baby arrives and what you can put off buying later… Check out my book: “Grávida e Prática - Um guia sem rodeios para a mãe de primeira viagem” (Pregnant and Practical - A straightforward guide for first-time mothers)! See how to buy it or download it for free with Kindle Unlimited: https://amzn.to/3Ur5HHA For more details, watch the video about it: http://bit.ly/gravidaepraticaolivro BEFORE 1) BASIC CLOTHES: Ideally, you should have basic clothes (bodysuits, culottes, onesies, socks) in newborn and 0 to 3 month sizes before the baby is born, because the initial phase requires a lot of adaptation and tranquility. 2) TOWELS, SHEETS, BLANKETS: Have at least two or three units of each of these items before the baby is even born. 3) HYGIENE KIT: Essential! It doesn't have to be the most beautiful, but rather the most practical. You will spend a lot of time changing diapers, and the thermos needs to be practical and easy to use. 4) CRIB: You need to have it at home before the baby arrives. There are also mini cribs that attach to the bed, as well as strollers that come with a Moses basket, where babies can sleep during the first few days. 5) CHANGING TABLE: Ideally, the baby's room should have a changing table on the dresser or the baby's crib itself (some more compact models of furniture already have the changing table attached to the crib). 6) BABY CAR SEAT: Without it, you can't even leave the maternity ward! So, go to the hospital with the baby car seat already installed in the car. Don't wait until the day you get home to learn how to assemble it. 7) STROLLER: If you can do it before the baby arrives, it's easier because you'll have more free time. 8) BUTT/SHOULDER CLOTHES: Have at least six units at home, washed and ironed. In addition to taking them to the hospital, you will need them during breastfeeding at home. 9) DIAPERS: It is important to have enough to last at least a month. Babies change, on average, eight diapers a day. 10) HYGIENE ITEMS: Cotton, diaper rash ointment, alcohol gel, shampoo and soap are other items that you should already have at home, even before the baby arrives. DON'T BE IN SUCH A HURRY! 11) PLATES, CUTLERY AND THE LIKE: Leave them to buy later or when you find a really good deal. 12) BOTTLES AND PACIFIERS: Many mothers do not want to give their children bottles or pacifiers. Therefore, you can leave buying these items until you need them, but have at least one model of each at home before the baby is born. 13) TOYS: Until two months, babies are still developing their vision, learning to identify colors and focus on objects. Save toys for gifts. 14) SHOES: Babies only start using shoes when they start crawling or standing. Until then, only have one or two pairs for outings.
