Eight young people stopped cars in both directions: road blocked for about 15 minutes At 8:15 this morning, August 26, Ultima Generazione activists blocked traffic on the Strada Statale 16 «Adriatica» at km 818, in Puglia, between Torre a Mare and Mola di Bari. Eight people sat on the asphalt and blocked the flow of cars in both directions. Moments of tension were recorded between the activists and the motorists, who first tried to dissuade the young people from their intentions and then forcibly moved them to the side of the road. Ultima Generazione activists are asking the government for a 20 billion euro compensation fund to compensate citizens for damages suffered due to extreme weather events (floods, hailstorms, fires, droughts and so on) caused by climate change. Shortly after the protest began, law enforcement arrived on site: the State Police flight unit sent a helicopter to monitor the situation. A quarter of an hour after the sit-in began, traffic was restored and the activists were taken away in police cars. ( Corriere Tv ).
