Dear nature lovers and natural garden companions, our current garden tour at the end of June shows the small and very BIG adventures in the natural garden. And it should also encourage you to allow more flowers and wonderful wilderness in your own garden and the surrounding area, or even better: to promote the garden wool bees, whose males jealously patrol between the flowers of the medicinal woundwort while the females diligently harvest fine plant wool from various plants. Here they do this on the crowned campion and the mullein. Unfortunately, there are hardly any relevant stocks of these important bee plants left in the countryside and along the roadsides. The house martins have to feed their young. Survival and life is not easy for them. They can hardly find suitable clay to build their nests, let alone enough insects to fill their hungry mouths. Their numbers are also decreasing. The largest European wild bee, the blue-black carpenter bee, is currently nibbling its brood tube into an old maple tree trunk (chopping block). Dead wood is also in short supply, especially in our gardens but also in forests. There is a noticeable trend to allow more dead wood and dying trees. They are an immensely important habitat for a variety of insects and thus once again form a food source for birds such as woodpeckers.
