Synopsis: Kaish Amari at the tender age of six he is sent to school and gets friendly with a young girl named Laila. Both of them become close friends, so much so that Kaish gets himself punished and beaten for her. They mature in age so does their love much to the chagrin of Laila's dad, who wants her to marry a wealthy Arabian, Bahksh, a noble Prince. Now the region is aflame with their love story, Kaish, who is now known as Majnu, cannot get Laila out of his mind and roams around the desert semi-senile, without food or drink, while Laila is getting wed to the man of her father's choice. The question remains will love triumph in the end or is this young couple fated to be separated for the rest of their lives. Laila and her lover Majnu, known as Qais, were born into two rival tribes called the Amris and the Sharwaris. Both loved each other during their childhood. Their love was such that if one got hurt, the other would start bleeding. The film tells how as children in a madrasa the maulvi asks them to write the name of Allah on their slates. Qais, who is lost in thoughts of Laila, writes her name in its place. In return, the enraged Maulvi hits his hand with a cane. But Laila's hand starts bleeding. Such incidents spread like wildfire and Laila's father, scared for his daughter's reputation, decides to stop her from going to school. The heads of the two tribes decide to separate their children as it is impossible for them to imagine that the Sharwaris and the Amris could ever be united by love instead of blood. Laila and her Majnu grow up in different places.
