About :

LAGAZUOI Piccolo and Cresta dello SPINARAC Anello da Passo Falzarego Kleiner Lagazuoi 2778m und Spinarac Bergtour It is an extremely panoramic ridge crossing and yet not very popular, considering the area. The Cresta dello Spinarac straddles the Val D'Ampezzo and the Alta Val Badia, and although it may appear quite wild and solitary today, it also presents many of the testimonies of what was the Great War in the Dolomites, with emplacements, trenches and other artefacts, some of which can be approached with dedicated tracks. We covered it by including it in a circular itinerary, starting and finishing from/at Passo Falzarego (2,105m). Here we turn left and take path no. 401, which with a slight slope first and then a series of hairpin bends, takes us to the Rifugio Lagazuoi (2,752m). From here we descend the small hill behind the refuge and quickly reach the summit cross of Lagazuoi Piccolo (2,778 m). ◀ Descent (Spinarac Ridge): We continue beyond the summit cross, in a north-westerly direction, descending the last stretch of the Kaiserjager Equipped Path, and up to the fork with its properly equipped part, which we leave on the left to continue always on the Spinarac crest, and always on a trail marked mainly by cairns and previous passages. Continuing, and after some slightly friable and exposed passages, we reach a short rock jump of a few meters, equipped with a metal cable, and which we tackle in descent (I+, II). After this jump, we take the trail, at times barely recognizable, which now descends towards the Lagazuoi valley in a NE direction, until it rejoins the more comfortable and recognizable path no. 20A. Once we reach path 20A, we take it to go up part of the valley towards Forcella Lagazuoi (2,573m), and from there we return to Passo Falzarego (2,105m) along the ascent route. 🕓 Ascent Time (Lagazuoi Piccolo)/Total: 2.20/4.45h (without breaks) 🏃🏻‍♂️ Distance: 10 km (approximately) 📈 Difference in altitude uphill/downhill: 830m/830m (including climbs) ⛰ Max altitude: 2,778m 🏠 Support points: Falzarego Bar Bazar (2,105m) - Rifugio Lagazuoi (2,752m) ◾ Difficulty: Ascent to Lagazuoi Piccolo: E (Hikers). Lagazuoi Piccolo - Cresta dello Spinarac: EE / F (Expert Hikers), with downhill passages up to I+/II (short section equipped with cable). Vallone del Lagazuoi - Return to Passo Falzarego: E (Hikers) 🥾 Equipment: Hiking + gloves and helmet. Potentially useful Harness with via ferrata kit in the albeit short equipped section. ✔ NOTE: Ridge itinerary that is not technically difficult but not very popular and that develops on friable surfaces, inclined slabs with unstable debris, and with some passages with a fair amount of exposure. After the short equipped section, pay particular attention to the route, as several tracks branch off to end in trenches and former war emplacements, without continuing. Also pay attention to the track that descends to rejoin the wider path no. 20A, as it is poorly marked/signposted. Also pay attention to the presence of rusty/sharp ex-war elements, such as parts of barbed wire, nails, sheet metal, etc. ⚠️ IMPORTANT: The descriptions/reports given here are purely for informational purposes. Everyone must be able to choose the routes to follow based on their own abilities, preparation, experience, physical condition, equipment, as well as in relation to the climatic/meteorological conditions. If you are interested in this type of itinerary but do not have adequate experience, preparation and/or equipment, as well as knowledge of the place/context, do not improvise, rely on the Alpine Guides.
