Maciej Maciejewski's report from 5 March 1999: In the spa town of Lądek-Zdrój, waste is being stored in a landfill that should have been closed for ten years. However, the commune is not following the recommendations of the environmental protection inspectorate. Instead of building a new landfill on the outskirts of the city, a composting plant was built. The commune took out a loan of PLN 1.5 million for its construction, which it is now repaying. The composting plant was put into operation two years ago. Due to defects, it was immediately closed by the State Labour Inspectorate. The contractor removed some defects and began technological start-up of the equipment in the composting plant. Last night, a storm tore off and scattered metal covers from silos and the roof. The wind may have overturned the crane. It is therefore not known whether the composting plant will be approved for use. We also invite you to: http://www.fb.com/RetroTVP3 http://wroclaw.tvp.pl/8906543/retro/
