Opitciwan, 800 kilometers from Montreal. In this reserve surrounded by trees, lives an indigenous community, the Atikamekw. Their main resource: the forest. Below -15°C, the employees cut the wood that they send to the factory. To study, a high school welcomes the children of the community, with special teaching methods. In reality, all participate in regaining a certain degree of independence by promoting their local work, after 150 years of colonial history. We met these inhabitants, condemned to remain on this reserve for some, dreaming of a future elsewhere for others. A documentary by Clara Martinot, Flora Monbec and Yann Richard—Gallardo.
