When the Soviet Union was invaded by the Germans in July 1941, chaos reigned as Stalin, the supposed man of iron, had collapsed, secluding himself for months in a summer house. Virtually alone, the Red Army had to act fast if they did not want to see everything they had achieved in the past 2 decades lost in a matter of 3 months, and in order to mount a defense effective enough to guarantee the future of their nation, they had some of the most advanced tanks of the time to meet this objective. With production barely beginning, but destined to equip thousands of heavy tanks to the crews of the brave Soviet defenders, the KV-1 would become the biggest headache for the Germans on the Eastern Front for the foreseeable future of the conflict.
