The tradition of caroling has been a part of the Christmas holidays since pre-Christian times and continues uninterrupted to this day. Neither conversion to Christianity nor Soviet bans could break this continuity of tradition — male singing and the ritual of caroling in this very village in the middle of the Carpathian Mountains.
