On December 30, we were alerted together with Rescue Brigade Monster and KNRM Hoek van Holland for a kitesurfer in trouble near the Zandmotor. The kitesurfer had been brought to shore by a fellow kitesurfer in the meantime. The crew of the coastal rescue vehicle took care of the kitesurfer who had become hypothermic in the meantime. The coastguard helicopter landed on the beach to have the medic check the kitesurfer. The rescue brigade and police helped with creating a safe landing zone. The body temperature had dropped to 34 degrees in the meantime. The kitesurfer was eventually transported to the waiting ambulance. In the meantime, the rescue boat George Dijkstra recovered the kite that was still floating at sea. Everyone was then able to return.
