Don't miss a video, subscribe to our channel: 👉 http://bit.ly/DiffusAbo In our new cover story, Klaas Heufer-Umlauf meets Beatsteaks singer Arnim Teutoburg-Weiß to talk about the new album "Please", alternative youth centers and loyal fans. Without wanting to make too much of a statement here, one thing can be said right from the start: The Beatsteaks enjoy legendary status in the German rock scene. At least there aren't that many other bands that still get along and actively make music more than 30 years after they were founded, let alone tear down Berlin's Wuhlheide for two days back to back, as will be the case next weekend. Arnim Teutoburg-Weiß, the group's singer, has known Klaas Heufer-Umlauf for not quite 30 years, but still a considerable amount of time. The Beatsteaks, who were still young and inexperienced at the time, were interviewed by the equally young and inexperienced presenter on Viva – and even a few decades later, Klaas was Arnim's desired interview partner to talk about the new Beatsteaks album "Please". No sooner said than done! "I've known them for so long that I didn't even know they were from Berlin! I thought they were from the USA or Canada!", Klaas recalls at the beginning of his first impressions of the Beatsteaks. And it's true: when you listen to timeless hits like "Hand in Hand", "I Don't Care As Long As You Sing" or "Gentleman of the Year", you really don't get the feeling that you're listening to a few local Berlin heroes. But the Beatsteaks have never had a particularly narrow horizon: when they started out in the mid-90s, the band was particularly influenced by Nirvana, and thanks to a music competition, one of their first concerts was as the opening act for none other than the Sex Pistols. Arnim and Klaas talk for almost an hour during our cover story. They explain why having fun at work is just as important as arguing, how youth centers can be used to combat the current political situation, and what a stay at Fusion has to do with that. They also talk about what it's like when fans grow up with you, and how they managed not to repeat themselves with their new album "Please," even after 30 years of band history.
