More than 30% of Kintetsu's general-purpose trains are more than 50 years old. To replace them, the new 8A series trains for the Nara and Kyoto lines have been introduced and began commercial operation on October 7, 2024. The interior of the trains are L/C seats that can be switched between long seats and cross seats, and two seats named "Yasashiba" have been installed in each car to allow passengers with strollers or carry-on bags to sit comfortably. Twelve 4-car trains will be introduced in fiscal 2024, and nine will be introduced in fiscal 2025. As of the end of October, five trains have been completed, and five 8000 and 8600 series trains have been scrapped. There are only four 8000 series trains left, and it is highly likely that the type will be eliminated within this fiscal year. Although the train type is scheduled to change, two, three, and three trains are scheduled to be introduced on the Osaka Line, Nagoya Line, and Minami-Osaka Line, respectively, in fiscal 2025.
