Do you think that when it comes to plug-in hybrid SUVs, all solutions are "one hoof"? We will show you that the technical solutions used differ in many ways and create a different overall impression of driving and of the car as such. This time we got our hands on two plug-in hybrids with 4x4 drive, the Kia Sorento PHEV and the Toyota RAV4 PHEV. Both SUVs differ in the concept and "assembly" of the plug-in hybrid drive. While the Kia Sorento uses a turbo gasoline engine, the 6-st. an automatic with a hydro-converter and a classic, mechanical four-wheel drive, in Toyota you will traditionally find the basis in the form of a more voluminous but atmospheric petrol engine, a continuously variable e-CVT planetary transmission and a much more powerful front electric motor. At the same time, the rear axle of the RAV4 is rotated by another electric motor, the mechanical connection between the front and rear axles is missing. For similar money, you have a choice. Either you prefer an overall larger piece of car from Korea, or you choose a slightly smaller one, but from the perspective of plug-in hybrids, a much more refined and powerful Japanese car that can function almost like a pure-blood electric car. In the video test, we will look at the technology of both representatives, the compromises that the installation of plug-in hybrid technology brings/does not bring, the method of charging and a comparison of driving characteristics, including a moose test. There will also be a field insert and a final summary recommending which car we would personally choose. More in the video.
