In his 2018 lecture at the ÖAW, the director of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig took the guests on a journey through the evolutionary history of humanity. He explained how his team was able to prove, by sequencing the Neanderthal genome, that the Neanderthal genome is more similar to the genome of Europeans and Asians than to the genome of Africans. In short: there is a little bit of the Neanderthal in many of us.
